Default Kenwood KDC-X997 is being funky

I`ve had this guy for around 4 months now, no big issues whatsoever. Other than having a random factory reset once in a while, later realizing my positive battery terminal was a little loose (doh!).

The only thing I`m trying to wrap my head around is how it`s sometimes starting up, and then turning on my amps just fine, playing the audio, but not outputting any signal to a single thing. No sound through deck power or pre amp outputs. I then shut it off, turn it back on and it`s like nothing ever happened. Sometimes when it brain farts it picks some random song nowhere near where I was previously when I shut it off last, or even a source I was never on before.

Main harness is 110%, no shorts, bad wiring, nothing. First thing I checked. My harnesses I solder, heat shrink, and wrap all pretty like anyway.

Kenwood has online support for updatable firmware for these things, updated that a week after I bought the thing.

Any ideas

I doubt it`s overheating, it usually only does this when I go start the car in the morning or after it`s sat for a while.

Never seen a deck do this before haha. I`m probably going to just hook the switched power up to a switch so I can manually turn the deck on and off after I build it into my center console I have planned.

I have a 996 that has done the same thing(no sound). I won it at a comp, so I pay it no mind and just power off and back on again.

I have the same deck and mine as been doing this also. Another thing mine does is it keeps my presets and equalizer settings, but resets of TQ settings, and resets my hz and frequency settings. Its very odd... usually does it when it sits over night

I had no idea it was so common with these decks, and through so many generations. You'd think kenwood would figure it out by now haha. Oh well.
