Default Soooo this happened..

Sent out a working amp. Receiver said as soon as he got it it would go straight into protect. I refunded him and he sent it back. Received it and I hooked it up. Straight into protect. Tried again, heard a pop. No idea what it was. Tried again. More pops and it smoked. Yes I feel dumb for doing that but I'm bewildered as to why it would happen when all it does is go straight into protect.

I wouldn't be surprised if buyer didn't hook it up backwards.

It was either refund him or he files a claim and keeps the amp.. had no choice really.. so I'm just repairing it and keeping it awhile.

nah.

protect doesn't happen when it's hooked up backward.

protect happens when an output fails {and/or when all the outputs fail}

that smoke happened when the power supply was powered up with at least shorted output transistor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since you experienced it powering up in protect before it blew up, it's not anyone's fault.

People do lie. And could lie about 'going into protect'

but that's only assuming and doesn't get you very far...Honestly it's up to the OP to know that his amp was working 100% to know it wasn't his fault.
