Default Becoming A Reseller (want input)

Only here to get input and advice on becoming a reseller. Ive been giving serious thought to it. Ive also got the opportunity to work with at least one company so far. Anyone here who does this on the side who can give me advice and input would be greatly appreciated. This will only be on the side since i have a regular job. Oh and right now ill be doing drop shipping.

Youll have to buy everything direct through the manufacturer. Good luck competing with online based brands. You will make the most dealing with dealer based companies.

I always recommend american bass as a general product to carry. Then pick up something nicer like DD, Sundown, Thedinger products, etc.

business name
tax ID
store front {internet is fine}

you'll have access to anything a distributor {like Dragon Distributing} can get their hands on. {Alpine and Kenwood are dealer based.. but distributors can get them for you}
major online stores get dealer based products and they have no reservations about undercutting local stores. [you have to compete with Crutchfield and SonicElectronix]

[don't sell junk]
reliability means better reputation and less customer service

Never misrepresent a product. if it's B-stock, make damn sure the customer knows it.

Accessories have less customer service issues.. power wire needs almost no CS. and can be a decent money maker.

my thoughts here are kind of random. if they help, great. if not, oh well.

They definitely help. Its something i want to on the side. Will i have to come up with some sort of business name before i do this all? It will also be only me doing this. So a sole proprietorship.

To register your business you will have to have a name and you will have to get a tax id for the company as well. A Sole P. is fine that is what we are. Only thing is even us been online for about 4yrs and still find it hard to bring on board new companies sometimes. Get in touch with some distributors and see what companies you can bring on board.

Get an LLC. Its normally cheap to file. Tax ID is free to get. Should be under $100 to be able to buy stuff.

Don't get hooked in on being a "authorized dealer". Carry cheap and mid grade unless you can sell an Eskimo a fridge. Brands like Kicker do a BOGO free on subs at least once a year that unless your bestbuy or crutchfield you won't get. You have to carry brands that get peeps in the door like Kicker and Rockford. Then it's up to you to sell the good stuff. Call this Guy Koby International and you can sell almost every non internet brand out there.
310-360-8825.
The resale card is the easy part. The hard part is getting people to buy something they never heard of before. The peeps that buy brands like found here are more than likely tuned to CACO for more killer deals from online retailers. A good place to get your name out there is to do swapmeets even if you have a store. But like previously mentioned the established online dealers also have the warehouse you buy your product from. The money is in the installs but if you look through this site you'll see that almost everyone is a DYI'r. Oh and there's almost no money in HUs. Then if you want to compete with the Ebay boys you'll literally have to work off like 15% profit.
It can be a lot of fun, but be forewarned it's not as easy as one might think. So I wish you the best of luck and get a game plan going before you jump in head first
