Default How hard is installing a re-cone kit?

Specifically on a memphis m3 15" with the kit from fixmyspeaker

Never did one before, don't want to waste the $100 on the kit. Also don't want to waste a ton of $$$ on shipping the motor there and back if it's not too hard to do myself.

What's a typical price for someone to do it for me, in person, if I don't feel up to it?

$50 I'd say. I think one of the hardest things is getting the coil in right. Otherwise you'll have coil rub..

I've never actually reconed one myself. Rob aka thorshammer reconed my Aq HD3 15 and he showed me how but i didn't actually work on it. Me and BallzFast on here put my Sundown 18 together and did the recone. It's not too hard.

I want to actually do one, but don't want to f it up and waste $100.

How accurate is this video? (first one I found)

I already took it apart. It's just the motor and basket (separate from each other)

You can always bring it by my place on a Saturday. I've done about 40 recones in the last year and a half.

It's not that hard, just make sure the basket is clean and use shims for the coil, index cards work great, it's like building a box, everyone is nervous their first time

if I recall this one is the best

Sub recone - YouTube

Most important things is getting the coil centered and using enough glue/right type of glue.

You will be pretty nervous doing it the first time. But after you see how easy it is (if you take your time and do it right) then you will be fine.

EDIT: I don't think he uses the right glues though... You want to CA glue the spider but Goop the surround and dustcap.

EDIT EDIT: and make sure the coil fits tight before you glue.

i usually charge 35-50 to recone depending on what the person wants done. make sure everything is clean, you pre-fit everything, have all your supplies on hand and take your time. i leave the shims in the recone the whole time while drying and pull them right before glueing the dustcap on.

Note about ca glue, activator is not hairspray... a mist on the glue from about 10" away is enough...if u use to much, it will look like butt hole

Clean ur landings with acetone (nail polish remover) ...wipe it with acetone, then wipe with a dry cloth

And let it dry for 24 hours after u set it, don't rush it
