Default pioneer ts-w5102spl questions

I recently got ts-w5102spl and I was wondering if it can except a 3" 8 layer coil? Thanks.

So I went to robot underground to see what he would offer me for my ts-w5102spl.... But anyways I asked him if he could rebuild it since its got a burnt coil. He said first of all a darkened coil is like Saying dark people are worse than white people. He also said it would work just like new... I was just like what? Than he said you need a ti basket to rebuild it. I just wanted to make sure it could be rebuilt with the original basket. To me it looks like it can.... Thanks for the help.

a dark coil vs a light one isn't always a killer if the factory used a darker tinted resin to seal the coil. if it reads wrong on a multi meter then theres damage. if the spiders are a nominal size and the coil height isn't too bad and the surround landing will fit a normal cone you can use the stock basket

The coils are darkened from the last owner clipping his amp on it. He had a lighting audio 1000.1 on it. On estimate the coil former is about 1"3/8th taller than the spider, up into the cone area. It has 8.25" spider landing.

which means it should be able to handle any 4 layer, possibly 8 layer. might have to trim down a spider to fit or have a plate done though, most 8 1/4 spiders are for 4" coils
