Default 01 Impala High output Alternator Voltage problems

Had my stock alternator on my 01 Impala with the 3400 engine in it and the voltage would rest at around 14.6 to 14.8. after I had added XS Power d3400 and Shuriken BT80 in the rear. This was all powering a Crescendo 2k and Execution Audio 60.4 . Decided I wanted to upgrade because I wanted to jump to a 3k amp. Bought a 200 amp alternator but the idle voltage on the new alternator is too low. Cranks up voltage was at 12.7 after install leaving at idle drops to 12.2 n lower. Hit gas and the voltage goes up to 13.7-8. Drive voltage continues to go up as driving( highest i saw was 14.2) and soon as I slow down goes back down to 12.6 and continues to fall. Thinking I need either the xs power vcm or mechman adjustable boost module to set the voltage at 14.8 for idle. Am i correct on that thought?

I don't have much experience with alts but a smaller pulley on the alt might help out with idle voltage, im sure some more experienced members will chime in soon

It's unlikely considering the timing, but check the batteries to make sure you don't have a dropped cell in one of them. I had a similar issue and when I unhooked and isolated both batteries and let them sit overnight one was resting at <10v.

Otherwise check for belt slip and loose or improper wiring at the alternator. Check the voltage at the alternator if possible and along any points in the wiring to the batteries to make sure the connections aren't loose. If everything checks out contact the alt manufacturer and see what they have to say about it. I would NOT try a boost module as a bandaid to cover up a potentially bad alternator.

Batteries charge fine on stock alt. just removed it today and it runs at 14.4-14.5 under load. just got the alt back after sending it in last week. He noticed it had belt slip on old pulley and replaced it with a new smaller one as well as put in new regulator just to make sure. He tested it and said it worked fine. He said that the 3400 has a low idle rpm n that they arent good for high output alts

Which brand is the alt, what condition is the alt in, and where did you get it are questions i'd like an answer to before I read any further.
