Default Setting Gains

I know a lot about gain overlap and all of that. I know my head unit clips at 34/35. I have a new Kicker KX1200.1 (great amp btw). Would it be out of the question if I set my sub gains using a -10db test tone with a 40hz test tone with the volume at 30/35? I generally use a -5db test tone for my mids and highs. I use now to set gains on subs with volume at 33/35 -10db on a 40hz test tone and on mids and highs 33/35 volume on -5db on a 1khz test tone.

Thanks

You can do that. The only thing I would recommend is using a 60hz tone instead because most multimeters (unless you have a good one) are more accurate at 60hz. Also remember that setting gains with a meter isn't perfect, and if you listen to music on the system you will have room on either side of where you set it to dial it in. Make sure your voltage isn't dropping too much at whatever setting you end up at. No use in setting the gain for full power if your electrical can't hold up (for example).
