Default 1/0 ofc vs cca

just trying to figure out how important it really is to have ofc ?

see when i first started i went with ofc was not bad running 1 strand of neg and positive from front to rear , but as the build started growing im up to 3 runs of each so i am redoing my amps and need wire again lol.

so im wondering for the short runs 5' or less if a cca will do the job ? i am looking into the 50% blend

depends on how much current you'll be pulling through the wire. If you're nowhere near the limit of CCA, then you won't notice any difference between the two

If you're stuck between OFC and CCA, you could do welding cable...perks of OFC and pricing of CCA

never used welding cable is it as flexible ?
as for amperage i fuse @ 250 per 5' run . see not much info is given on the limits of the blend but on such short runs 250 amps should be np but idk

CCA rots from Oxidating pretty fast compared to copper. Like way faster. Welding cable is great I use it, just not as flexible. You get what you pay for. Like most other things.

That's Knu 1/0 cca on the left that was in my last build for over 2 years. Inside the vehicle, no moisture, short runs from batteries to amps. No oxidation
The right is 2/0 flexaprene welding cable.

with cca you will notice the current transfer isnt as effiecent...and you might have lower voltage at the rear batteries as a result

I have cca in my doors, and I have to cut back and restrip the wire anytime we get a really heavy rain. Granted my door leaks a little bit but the wire never gets any actual water on it. It just corrodes super easy. When I redo my doors, I definitely won't be using cca again

Slice open down the middle of your cca and you will see it is most likely oxidized
