Default Old School Spectrum Analyzing Goodness

Just got this setup in the mail today. I must say I kinda forgot how sexy the os spectrum analyzers were. Something about them is just hypnotizing. I got the set from a guy in Russia but they are Japanese so the radio won't pick anything up but no biggie. I had never seen these models till I saw the ones I got. Anyone here have any experience with these?

"Center speaker has been cut, possibly by manufacturer and appears to be professionally repaired with black tape. This appears very professional and might be by design. The tape used is not some cheap electrical tape, but a light fabric-like tape. I assume if you are bidding on this high-end speaker, that you are an audiophile and aware of the origins of the anomaly."

I have a Z919, which is the US version of the one on the top. It was one of the first units on the market to play mp3's. I remember drooling over it in all the stereo shop displays, and there was all sorts of hype around them. I think it was around 2000 or 2001 if I remember right. I don't know why, but they never sold well and were soon forgotten after the Z828 came out.

I've never seen the matching spectrum analyzer, though!! That's mega pimp!! I have a soft spot too for the old school matching single din units. Kenwood had a few different models of matching units like yours only older, Pioneer had them with the DEQ-7600 and 9200, Sony had some, and I think Alpine even had a set too.

Nice I can't believe I've never seen the us version z919. I've had a ton of kenwood decks over the past.

And thanks a million for that ebay link expo!!! I didn't know those existed. I will definitely be buying one.

I wish companies still made these! Not everyone wants a big double din touch screen. When I was a teenager I always wanted either a Pioneer or Alpine 'set'. And I remember in LL Cool J's Hey Lover music video they did a close up of I think the Alpine unit lol
