Default Virgin Lead Battery Comparison Test

I will be doing a battery comparison test with my termlab magnum, most likely when I get some time over spring break next month. I'm open to test more if you send them to me as long as I don't get overloaded with like 20 batteries to test.

We will be comparing the SMS series with the standard engine starting NorthStar batteries to see if they live up the the hype.

1. NSB G31
2. 2 NSB G31
3. 2 NSB G34
4. NSB SMS220
5. NSB SMS400
6. NSB SMS480

Just for fun I may or may not add these two, we will see:
1. Odyssey Extreme 31
2. Odyssey Performance 31

I'd like to test a lithium as well, but I don't personally have one. The smaller JY or XS15k would be preferred but any of them would work.

Measurements taken:
Voltage
Amperage draw
Clamped power output of amp(s)
SPL score

The Extreme should be right with the NorthStar 31, but I'm curious to see how the performance 31 would do.

They are all virgin lead and use thinner plates giving them more lifespan and more discharge rate given the same battery size.

They can typically last twice as long or more than a standard recycled lead AGM.

XS is virgin lead as well, hence their great performance and lifespans.

Same guy created the tech for Hawker (absorbed by EnerSys) and then later for NorthStar. Both are great batteries, with NorthStar having a bit more high tech facility and a few nice little features added. I expect measurable performance to be pretty much the same, but the carbon technology in the northstar may give it an edge for lifespan. The NSBs are cheaper too.

I'd hope the Virgin batts lasts well over 3-4x as long as others. I've had 4 Jb black cherry batts in my semi for a year now and after the truck being off for 12 hours, they rest at 11.9v. They don't hold up to being a dual purpose at all. Replacing them with nsb-agm31 next week.
