The baskets came in from SPY and one motor has been bolted together. After talking to a few people who build subs. Decided to just chamfer the top plates. Second one should be done next week. Going to have the steel parts black oxid coated. Than they are off to Nick  and his magnatizer.
For reference that is a RF Power series 12" basket!!
Be afraid, very afraid :angry5:
Only soft parts in so far are the coils. 5" former hight and 1.4" winding hight. Its so out of proprtion due to it being a underhung design. Coil should just bairly ever leave the gap. To be honest its a SQ sub like the LMS subs with the potential to get loud while sounding very very good doing it.
200lbs that would be insane. Their only about 70lbs each. The top plates are that thick due to the motor design. Yes used for a class teaching project. Not going to say it wasn't a little self indulgent (2 instead of 1). I always wanted to build a underhung motor.
You want to keep kids interested in school use/do something they can relate too.
Is a rough guess. Will know when they ship out for sure. I can pick them up preety easy and rough calc using standardized steel weights should be close give or take 10lbs
Now if I could just find a couple 10" magnet slugs with 4.5" coil openings. Have another design I would like to try out. May use Neo if I can find the right slugs.
Coils are only rated at 1000w, but they did send me 6 of them so......
Due to having a very tight gap due to the magnet slugs I used. Coils only have 2 winding layers. Like I said are ment to be uber SQ wooferage!!
Will say there is $130 dollers worth of steel and $100 in the magnet slugs.
