Default Difference between epicenter and equalizer

So I'm looking to get the Alpine CDE-HD149BT and I'm trying to figure out the difference between epicenter and equalizer to best determine which i should get. I listen to all kinds of music.would it be ok to get both or would that just be a waste of money.

Alpine is over priced for what you get in my opinion I would consider a pioneer. If you listen to a lot of rap music I wouldn't get a epicenter the bass is already there. However if you listen to rock and older music a epicenter would be good. epicenter will is a bass enhancer basically. equalizer will allow you to control you eq on the fly changing it for different songs. I like the clarion eq because you can control volume and bass.

the controls on the HU are pretty good, for the average car audio person. I have had a few systems installed over the years, I liked the Epicenter for OLD Rock(Steeley Dan, Kansas, Beetles) it just gives the bottom end a little bit of a boost. But, when switching to the radio to get a traffic report, it kinda sucks flexing the windshield with TALK or commercials. The EQ's are nice to TWEEK ON, but, I just set up the crossovers on my amps and use my HU controls for the Subwoofer section, HPF, etc.
Maybe I'm just getting lazy in my old age. Of course my opinion and $.50 can't even get me a cup of coffee.

Dont even bother wasting your money with either. You can do the same thing using your head unit's EQ. Its basically a 40-50hz boost

My buddy's shop installs hundreds of epicenters, and the soundstream BX models. They are epicenter knock off's for all intensive purposes. I hate how they sound. Unless you listen to corridos,Mexican music,Or old rock. Basicly anything without bass in the recording Would be the only reason to want one. They make bass that has a forced hollow floppy sound. And just not good sounding to my ears. I like Alpine head units better than pioneer, But i do have a pioneer in my personal car lol. So take it with a grain of salt, But The new alpines are certainly not what they once were! If you want, on the fly eq adjustment. Just get a in dash Lot's of manufacturers make them. Want more control? Get a trunk mount EQ or big audiocontrol one. Kicker makes a nice trunk mount pre amp too i believe. It's really not needed in my opion Unless you wanna tweak your settings constantly.. But they can great tools when tuning. I personally like a set it and forget it approach. Through that bish on a RTA. Set it. N Forget it! lol

For HU I've been going back and forth between the alpine and pioneer 80prs. They are about the same price. I normally go kenwood or pioneer this would be my first alpine if i decide to go with it. I mostly listen to rap but also a lot of rock and country. This will be the first time i will be amplifying my mids and highs. Normally i just run them off the HU but since my sub is in my center console i would like some more power on the vocals. As far as the eq i have had my eyes on the clarion. I think i have heard that those 2 HU's have good eqs built in already just wondering if going with something on the outside would be easier and worth spending a little extra money. I appreciate all the help and opinions. Definitely gives me things to think about to actually build a good system instead of messing around like i normally do

Myth: epicenters make mariachi music sound better...
Fact: epicenters make bass sound worse...
Fact: buy a indash eq if you wanna rear end someone
We (installers) call the knob on the epicenter the distortion knob
