Anyone running infinite baffle and have split numbers? If so what do you have and what is it doing on the termlab? I just bought a Chevy avalanche and I am thinking about 2 18" FI IB3 subs installed where the midgate is. However, I don't know if it's going to be loud enough for me.
I've played around with it in other cars but never my own. The work you'll put into it is far, far more than you would building a standalone enclosure. IB sounds great, can save a ton of space if you can use the area behind the subs, and can be very efficient. With a lot of work you should be in the 140's no problem, but it could also sound lite a floppy rattly mess if you don't do it right.
I've ran it in the past (late 90's). Basically if a sealed box can get loud enough for you a IB setup has the potential to theoretically get as loud. Kind of funny I have been toying with the idea of running the same setup your looking at but in a civic coupe, but I'd like to get closer to 150's than 140's where I think the IB setup would play, but the IB would be super flat and play music like it really is meant to be heard.
I originally was hoping for 150's but after doing some winisd calculations and 140-144db is tops for 2 18" fi ib3 subs and 1500w. In my opinion it could be the easiest box I have built yet as it would just be a double baffle with the 2 18''s secured in the midgate. I have seen a few videos of IB setups but most are not being metered.
150's ib would need to be something crazy like 6 18's in a B pillar ib wall. Late 90's it would be possible if using the old audio control mic. Now that same setup could meter as much as 8db lower with the termlab sensor.
I had a pair of Fi 18" IB3 in an olds cutlass ciera off a pair of bazooka mgh1100 (1Kw ea). I could muster a 138. I saw a guy with four 12" IB3 on equivalent power in a fleetwood caddy and he was able to do hair tricks, so he probably got over 140. If I were to do it over again I'd go with as many small woofers as I could afford/cram in. It's a motor force vs cone area thing.
