Default Looking for help, options, etc

Hello all, in about a month and a half I'm going to be putting a system in my 2003 Trailblazer LT and I need some help. The largest system I have done is 2,000 watts, I want to double that now. I'm looking at 2 15" American Bass HDs and possibly either 1 Taramps HD 5000 ran at 2 ohms or 2 VFL4800.1Ds. I am going to be doing my big 3 with Sky High Car Audio 0 gauge and I will have a 250 amp HO alternator from DB Electrical. My questions are:
1. Do I need 1 or 2 batteries in the back? I know someone that works for Johnson Controls and can get me at least 1 battery for $50.
2. If anyone knows about Johnson Controls, what's the best battery I can get for starting and which one for the back?
3. Will I need to have more than 1 run of 0 gauge to either of those amps?
4. Anyone build boxes?
I think that is all I need, any positive answers/comments are welcome. Thanks all!

Don't get the vfl 4800
I would get the tatamps 8k it's only like $70 more or something

Idk about Johnson control batteries but you will want a total of about 300-500aH of batteries
That is 3-5 big batts depending if you get a 5 or 8k
You can always set the 8k lower or wire to 4ohms for now and 1ohm when electrical upgrades are done

1 run front to back is fine

If you can mount a voltmeter on the dash and connect it to pos and neg at the amp
If your voltage gets low back off the volume and let it come back up

8K on the AB HDs? I didn't think they could handle that much power. Not sure what you mean "You can always set the 8k lower or wire to 4ohms for now and 1ohm when electrical upgrades are done". I mean I understand the first part, just not sure about the electrical upgrades are done part. Sorry if that sounds dumb, it's early here. Would I need more than 1 run of 0 gauge to the amp? Thanks

I checked up Johnson controls and they makes battery for a lot of brands but only saw one that actually I well known and it's optima so I would ask your friend if he can go 2 of those for the rear and leave your stock one up front

And you have a lot of people that can help with box build just gotta find them at a decent price I would help but your like 4 hr away from Allentown pa or so

If you can't afford to buy all of the batteries now, you could wire the amp to a higher impedance load to reduce power consumption (you could also turn the gain down).

The HDs will take an 8kw amp. After rise you're looking at probably 3-4kw. If you plan to burp and design the enclosure specifically for SPL purposes you might run into trouble, but not on music.

I'm running about 7kw on my 15"s with a 170A alt and two 120AH batteries and my voltage is pretty good. No dips below about 13v while driving and minimal dips into the low 12s while parked. A 250A alt and 300AH of reserve should be good for your setup.

I thought all of their batteries were pretty much the same just badged under different brands? I know some people have had issues with optimal. But I get what you're saying, thanks. As far as the box, I will probably post in that area of the forum. Thanks for your help.

Ok, I see, thanks for clearing that up and thanks for all of the knowledge you've shared. I did want to ask why not the VFL?

Also, will I need more than 1 run to the amp? Thanks

I don't think the VFL has clamped very well, but honestly I don't know.

The number of runs will depend on the amp or amps. One run from alt to batteries should be fine as it's only going to be at most 250a.

1 run from front to back should be fine. It's also beneficial to have a stronger amp than needed so you can turn the gain down or have a higher final load. Usually amps will run cooler in these situations and will ultimately last longer (usually). For electrical, I would always say more is better (as long as space and budget permits it). Also getting some OFC wire will be a plus as well.
