Default Confused, help me identify this subwoofer!

So I thought I had come across a good deal on a Brahma 15. Seller said he was trying to determine which version it was, but would send me photos soon. I received these photos. I am confused. The basket doesn't look like anything I have seen related to any Brahma version. The motor only has 2 magnets, and every pic I can find shows that Brahma was a triple stack in all versions. The top plate is definitely thick enough, but it is two plates, which is unlike the pics I have seen of real Brahmas. So, what do you guys think? Is this one of the Robot Underground knock-offs? I honestly think the seller doesn't know if it is or is not real, and I don't think he is trying to pull a fast one on me, I think he bought it under the impression that it was a real Brahma.

Looks like a Brahma motor and dustcap but I don't think the softparts and basket are original. I've never see that kind of basket on a Brahma. They've only ever used 4 and 12 spoke baskets IIRC.

Interesting, all the Brahma motors I came across were triple stack magnets. Any idea which mk number had the double stack? I agree, the basket is not like any I have seen on Brahmas. The cone also looks smooth on the underside, but perhaps it is just the contrast in the photo. If it is a real Brahma motor, then that's the most important part. The real issue is that without the other parts being original, there's no telling what the T/S parameters are, and whether the coil was built correctly which could result in wildly different performance and power handling.

So a little more research based on the link provided by oslouie yielded interesting results. That link actually shows an Exodus Audio X-12, which was a HT oriented subwoofer put out by Kevin Haskins of Exodus Audio and DIYCable. They also produced an X-15, and later the Tempest-X which was basically the X-15 by a different name. The motor was based on the Brahma, so it had good Xmax of 27-29mm, but they used a 2.5 inch voicecoil, and as such, the power handling and motor force was no where near the original Brahma. Great HT subs in their time, especially given the cost of them. I believe the X-12 went for like $160 shipped, and the X-15 for like $180 shipped.

Does anyone else think it is likely an X-15 or Tempest-X? I found a couple photos of them, and the basket is different, but I don't know how many versions they put out or whether they used different baskets. Given that the dust cap is obviously a Brahma cap, it still may have been rebuilt at some point, or the dust cap just replaced, who knows.

After a lot of research and a little bit of input on other forums, I decided this sub is most likely a Mk4 built by Robot Underground. Adire moved to a 2.5" voice coil and dual top plate/dual magnet motor with the Mk3 design. This reduced the power handling significantly, and there were a few other QC/design issues with them. The Mk3 design was 'leased' by RU (if you believe the owner of RU) and the Mk4 subs were built. The difference in the Adire versus the RU visually I believe is just the basket. Adire used the standard cast 12 spoke claw basket, and from what I gathered through various other forum threads, RU used whatever they had available. This is what leads me to believe it is a Mk4. I suppose it could be a Mk3 that had a recone and basket change, but I don't know why you'd go through the trouble of reconing to use such an odd basket, when cast 12 spokes are easy to procure. Anyway, I decided against the purchase due to too many unknowns for the price.

Then I picked up a pair of AA Avalanche 15s, so there's that...

I'm buying something similar. I think, not sure, but 90 percent sure it's a exodus audio xj12, xbl2 motor. The basket and soft parts are not adire or exodus. I'm trying to grey specs on mine to build a box. The motor is definitely rare
