Default Do You Think It's Worth It

I am contemplating rebuilding my Earthquake Magma's, I measured everything and it seems all I can do is basically rebuild them as stock but with standard cones unless I get the basket machined or change baskets. The cost is about $95 per sub If I do it (4 subs) or $550 plus shipping to get one built, used as a template and drop in recones made for the other 3. They have an odd coil size so they would be dual 3ohm, seems all the other coils wont fit the gap. Does it seem worth it or spend a little more and go with all ready built subs like SA's or something.

Well I just found an excellent video on rebuilding subs and I may have to just rebuild mine....

I would have to step up to something like the Sundown X12 to really notice a large difference in performance...at least in theory.

So four 3" coiled subs with 25mm one way xmax, sewn leads, wide roll surround, carbon fiber dust cap and an extremely conservative 750rms rating for roughly $125ea I really dont think I can beat that.

Any ideas?

Here is what I am debating......

Sa's
EMF Lowballers
Rebuild my subs

My subs will have a one way xmax of 25mm and use the same coils as DD3500 if I want to run 2 and build them myself @ $100ea

If I want to run 4 I can ship my one basket/motor to Frankenstein Subwoofers, have him build it and make 3 copy recones....all said and done around $550-$600 for all 4 shipped

So $360-400 for 2 or $550-600 for 4.........

I bought my subs used for about $40each and it seems on every one just the one coil smoked, I was running over 3k to them in sealed enclosures which Earthquake says they were made to run in but they really needed to be ported or a little larger sealed....

I just cant decide....

Then I also keep thinking just run two 15's.........

Well I finally found a coil which is almost an exact match.... DD3500 coil... Will cost about $77 per sub to rebuild....

I ordered one set of parts, if it doesnt work out will be buying new subs...

First order cost me $104.79 due to having to buy glues, shims and activator....

Wish me luck...will document the first build, may have to invest in a speaker tester to get my ts specs...
