Default Did science kill car audio

I remember my first "system" a set of Sparkomatic 6x9s with semi-transparent cones and a Realistic booster eq. That was back in 1986! I was hooked, I mean with a big ass deep sea fishing hook.

I lived in the golden age of car audio, late 80's early 90's. When a couple sealed 12' subs in the trunk, separates up front and coax in the back, a run of 4ga to an 50w A/B amp that put out 400w at 0.5 ohms made you a big dog on the block hitting mid 130's, we bought our equipment from Car Audio Shops. We used a LOT of pixie dust back then. We progressed into the late 90's early 2000's and we started using 0ga, 1 farad capacitors, pseudo walls some times ported with lots of smaller subs, or 3-4 big ones, we did mid 140's and used big amps that put out 1000-1500 watts. We used equal doses of science and pixel dust, we bought Car Audio magazine, learned, dreamed and bought our stuff from Car Audio shops and Big Box Stores. Then we moved into the late 2000's and early 2010's, we lost Car Audio Magazine to online forums, Big Box Stores killed the big brands, We bought more power for less money, we got subs that had excursion 3,4,5 & 6 times what we had in the early days. Because little guys like Sundown, Incriminatory, DD were able to access resources from across the globe, we used multiple runs of 0ga, multiple batteries, High output alternators, Neo powered subs, 10,000 watt amps, CAD readily available to everyone... We play daily at 150, pull hair tricks with anyone willing to sit in the car, we use science and pixey dust is all but gone! Just like the good ole' days of Car Audio

Where did we go wrong

As we approach 2020 the need for daily 160's is growing. I compete and do lots of demoing, im putting up a 156 and feel im not loud enough. So much is available to so many now yet nobody wants to work for it or pay for it. Price of equipment is at a race to 0. The forums are loaded with noobs that ask someone else to take the time to design there system and box and full detailed cut sheets for free. Very few want to do the research and learn how and why these things are done. Then they demand someone design them a box for 10 18's in a small car. Get mad when someone tells them you should only run 2 in a wall that small. Finally someone will design a way for them to fit even though the wont work correctly. The kid will go to a show lose and put the other guy on blast because his box design sucked.

But you must admit that on a social level, it has flatlined.

10 years ago CACO had thousands of comments per day, people we buying, sellin, trading, and scamming.

Today, there is like 5 comments per day.

I miss the days of going to a real car audio shop. They are all but dead around me these days. I also loved when Circuit City was hosting dB drag events and there would be over 100 cars competing on any given weekend and so many more shows in general. Cheap gear on the internet killed all of that. Donít get me wrong itís great that there is good gear to be had for a reasonable price and there is way more information available than I ever had starting out but itís hard for me to say that the hobby wasnít better back then regardless of how good the equipment is now.

go on facebook everything is there. 50+ car audio pages 5000+ comments a day. Car audio never died, its growing faster and booming higher than ever. It just outgrew you and this forum. Sharing vids and pictures is way easier and faster on a proper social media platform vs a forum.

Gotta agree with this

Had my amp in Craigslist for about 3 years, maybe 10 hits in that time.

Put the amp on my wife's Facebook, sold in 3 weeks...
