Default output matching problem??

Im banging my head against the wall here guys, so any ideas would be helpful.
Running aPioneer head unit (dont remember the model) to an MMatts 2000.05 to 3 cerwin 15" wired to a .05 load.
The input range for the amp is up to 2.5 volts. my headunit's output is 6v.
The amp goes into protect mode when we really push it hard.
Ive checked, and rechecked all the wiring, everything is clean.
Could the head be overdriving the amp, putting it into protect?

Try lowering the gain until you can get the amp to stop shutting down.

Get a tiny run off speaker cable And rumor from you postive input on the amp to the remote input and see if it comes on then...if so it's your head unit

and even if you cant set the gain low enough to match, it still shouldnt cause a problem. Because it's based on the volume knob of your headunit. Your amp should reach it's limit way before your speakers do.. if you turn it up any farther you're gonna damage something. Thats the only prob of having the gain too high.

I wouldn't use that method, I would ONLY do that if you are thinking the remote output of the hu is bad, which i don't think it is since your amp does turn on.

Your amp is probably going into protect from too much input voltage or heat.

if the headunit has a "subwoofer output" control, you can try turning that down so that the h/u doesnt send such a strong signal to the amp.

I have a feeling though that your electrical is not up to par enough for a half ohm load, or your amp is not stable to that ohm load.

Im using 0 g throughout. a 160 amp alt. and yes the 2000.05 is half ohm stable. (its in the model name after all) besides, even with anemic wiring, this amp shouldnt go into protect.
has any one used attenuators?
