Default How do you know what hz to play at?

I see some people saying their subs will play at 36hz and 42 hz and 56 hz..how can they tell whats best for their system?? Just try some songs with those frequencies and see whats best?

Run a sweep to find your peak tune or just play songs like you said and hear what notes are the loudest and what the posted said they were @ frequency wise

Tune low to be bad ass. Only homos have boxes tuned higher than 32hz.

To find where your vehicle and subs simply peak at you would run a sweep and use a TL (Termlab meter) to see where the fq that plays the loudest is.

<- Doesn't tune because only homos have to tune to get loud and low.

But yes, sine sweeps and test tones on the TL. Which ever one gets loudest is your peak.

Mine is 38hz Way too high.

Keep in mind guys, that a sweep will only give you a general idea. Sweeps should also be played at lower volume levels to minimize voltage drop/coil temperature change. Then, when you turn it up to full burp volume, these things will change your peak frequency. Also, how you sit (or don't) in the car can change your peak note. So while a sweep will give you a general area of your peak, you need to go and check notes around that supposed peak 1 by 1.

Perfect example, when I was tuning my bandpass. I would sweep at volume 15 and the peak showed at 57hz. When I turned it up to full burp volume (27) the peak was at 52hz.

yeah ive notice in my vehicles and a friends that you peak higher at lower volume. and my peak on a sweep is usually a little off from when i just use tones. so thats why i always do full volume and use different tones at every hz
