Default My box sucks. Going back to the basics. Help me out...

Hey guys. Im not entirely happy with the outcome of my 13.5 cube 220" box @ 35 hz box on my HDC3 18's

I want to go back to the sub up port back and need a proven ground pounder for 2 of these copper 18's. Standard sub up port back possibly....

I want the box to be 37.5" wide, snug between my wheel wells, with the subs ontop at the front behind the front seats, with the port either across the bottom on the back firing against the hatch, or up towards the ceiling to minimize hatch flex??

This is going in a nissan pathfinder with all the rear seats removed

I dont know whether to do a tall box that isnt so deep...

Or with a box that is only like 14" tall but 50+ deep back towards the hatch....

I will be using 3/4" single baffle all around, with 1" oak dowel bracing. What do you guys think I should do??

Im thinking the box I have right now which was I believe 13.5 cubes before displacement and like 12.25 after with gobs of port doesnt sound right so I went wrong somewhere

Pics of old box? And what is it doing you don't like? It's tuned a little low. I would never tune a AQ sub lower than 38hz.

Doesnt sound on key and doesnt beat your chest with kickdrums like my old box with my hdc15's did. I listen to mostly rock.

Dont know if I went to big or just because I had so much port or because it was a wall or what, but my last setup got louder and hit harder

can you cut the port shorter to raise tuning?

For mostly rock 38-40Hz will make you happier.

around 12cubes with 16^2 port per cube should be fine.

Tuning low not gonna give kicks,,,,It's just gonna shake and rattle stuff....Tune a bit higher......35hz might be low for the hdc3's....Gonna rip spiders if not careful.....

ur not tuned to 35hz likely

when u fire port back the car extends the effective port length

try shortening port some first
