Default never thought this could happen

i have a jbl gto 1201.1II
and ive been running a friends dual 1 ohm 15 off it in parralell for a few weeks now..so its at .5 ohms, the amp gets a lil hotter than it used to but its making a lot more power...supposedly this amp isnt stable under 2 ohms...my imp rise is to 1.4 something but still. how is this possible?

I would reconsider this. you never know whats gonna happen.

had a buddy install 2 12s on a mtx 81000d at 1 ohm. he didnt know it was a 2 ohm stable amp. I told him and before the kid could get back to the shop with it, it was toast. I highly doubt his .5 rises near 2 ohms IMO

It's fine. Run it.

your amplifier is rated for what it can do with a moderate power supply without blowing up. The engineers probably have a 50-75% safety on it so silly people don't blow them to high hell. {they say 2ohm stable but it may really be .75ohm stable in your application}

Cooling it some might give you peace of mind but if you've run it for two weeks already, it's not going to die.

The down side is the loss in clarity and damping factor {signal control} but if it sounds good, as I said before, just run it.

Also, if you set it so it doesn't clip, everything should live a very long time.

You might want to rethink this statement.

Minimum rise i normally see is 3x what the dcr/minimum wired load is. I've seen 1 ohm loads go up to 6 ohms, theres a lot of variables there. Expect a .5 actual load to be at least a 1.5 ohm load, most likely even higher. I'm not one of the people to go into detail though, i just retain what i've learned here, i'm sure one of the guys who i've learned from will chime in when they read the thread.

I have seen a few that looks like an entire football game was played on top of the amp by 1000s of little midgets with sharp cleats on, though... makes me wonder what the rest of the install was like. But... those are set aside as "C" stock as Chris stated.
