Thinking of building a temp box for an HDC3 18" GOnna be sub up port back but I wanna invert mount the sub in the box.

Does it affect anything other than not take up room in the box??

It will be fine, only difference will be some added mechanical noise but chance are you won't be able to hear it at high volume.

you're talking about mounting the woofer firing into the enclosure. right? no harm in that. the signal it gets is alternating current. so the only thing it affects is its phase with the rest of your system. meaning you'll have to wire it backwards OR electronically correct the phase 180*.

you can do it but most of the time it isn't the best thing to do it disrupts the air flow out side of the box and lets mechanical noise into the cabin

you're not going to have any audible noise inverting upside down. unless the tensils are hitting the bottom side of the cone. it won't have any disrupted air flow. no more than it would have inside the enclosure mounted right side up.

Werd. And the fact that the driver is now between the port and the listener will cause air disturbance.

the fact that the woofer will cause disturbance being located between the listener and the port means that its not ported correctly. in fact meaning the woofer and port are not acting as one. that explains the disturbance. above and below tuning within a 1/2 of an octave give or take the port and woofer act as one. disturbance would in actuality be phase shift

you 2 are talking about different things, he is taking about physical air disturbance and you are talking about phase issues
