The draw backs are it is almost a requirement to run 3-ways with an 8" midbass, mostly to alow the 8 to provide the right musical output for its size and what it's going to be best capable of producing. You're not going to want to run it too much higher than 500 hz, but that is also dependant upon the driver you're using.

Will it improve sq? That also depends but most likely you'll have a front stage that can dig down lower, and will blend better with your subwoofer. It could be a huge improvement in sq, and will almost definitely be a huge improvement in midbass unless you're talking some type of PA driver that is just meant to get loud which I absolutely would not recommend.

Recommendations:

Dayton RS225 - excellent for the money, will give you great impact and will dig down low. It doesn't have much break up till above 1500 hz but still I would cross it way lower like 500 hz.

Dynaudio MW170/2 - I've never met an 8" driver I like more than this one, including all those subs I had in my rear deck. It is sharp, tight, has a lot of chest pounding impact and is musical up to its 700hz crossover point, I absolutely love it, however it's not cheap.

if it was anyone besides nizzy i would agree. but he gave you the benefit of the doubt and only gave you a 5 pter when it should be considered a perma ban. nizzy isnt a nazi mod, hes one of the laid back ones. although i do not support all of the staffs decisions this is one staff that i do support 100%. just let it go and move on. it will expire

thanks for the nice writeup.
i'm going to do some research, as the 3way has never left my mind lol.

EDIT: i'm not saying its impossible, but can i get the right sound i'm lookin for with some adjustments with a 2way still?

Nope, it will be next to impossible unless you have tweeters that dip down to the 1khz range or lower, horns could work, but they are not too easy to incorporate.

If I was you, I'd save up big money and buy the system 362 that's up.

There sure are, but I have never had as much dynamic sound with 6.5's as I've had with my dyn's.
