Default about power going to sub

so say i have a sub where im running 4k rms in amps or a amp to the sub, its obv gooing to be too loud just for listening to daily full tilt all the time but does that mean if im running it like half volume that it will wreck the sub causing me to have to get it reconed n stuff? or as long as i have the amp/amps set correctly so it is getting 4k rms and i just have the bass turned down on my head unit it will be fine and not cause any damage?

At full tilt, you're using up more wattage. At lower volumes it sends less wattage. I dont get your question?

i was told that if u run the sub under its rated wattage that it can be bad for it. so wut im saying is if the sub is rated at 4k rms and i have 4k rms of amps going to it, is it fine to run with my bass turned down for daily? like if i have the amps set so there is 4k rms of power going to it but my bass is turned down? when i turn it down on the head unit does it reduce the watts going to the sub?

You got a little confuzzed my dude. That means. Don't be putting like say a 200w amp on a 4k sub and Cranking it up because it can cause damage. Reason why we can put 1500w amps on like 2-3k subs is mainly cause we don't do 100% gain because it is just not good to do.

You can put a 2k amp or even a 1k amp on the sub if you want. Just don't make the amp go full power thus creating a weaker, sound, Clipping occurs because it decides to compensate and send signal instead of true power.

other then that, I am sure that is what he asked.

The reason people say too low of power kills speakers is because when you turn the gain or volume or bass boost up to "make up the difference" you are likely to exceed the capacity of the amplifier to produce the signal without reaching it's limits. Which means you go beyond clean signal into clipped signal which gives bursts of DC current which causes heat which causes failures of all kinds: coil, tinsel lead, spider {if a lead burns it}, connection failure, and possibly coil adhesive failure.{slinky}

With the amplifier and signal chain set up correctly, a subwoofer will not die from less power but some subwoofers barely move with 500watts so, that's no good either.
