if theres one speaker i know well its the w7 (my avatar lol). Im suprised that amp doesnt push that speaker at least moderately though. in my opnion the w7 sounds its best with about 1000 watts on it. So im assuming that you have one? If so that would mean you would either need a two channel that does about 1000 or get a larger amp that puts out max power in two ohms. Also is your box sealed or ported?

well yeah it's in a ported box built to specs, and it does bump but i think it can be a lot louder, if i turn my gain up past half it distorts and it gets warm and I think goes into protect mode within 30 minutes of hard listening. so im looking to see what the problem is and what will help. i also have some cheap jvc headunit if that matters. some car audio dealer here told me that was my problem, that my preouts didn't put out enough volts but he didn't seem to knowledgeable

isn't your sub single 3ohm? you'll probably want an amp that does 1000rms at 4ohm or 1500rms at 2ohm. Your current amp is probably only giving the w7 around 700-750rms before rise.

I've had 2 12w7s and I have a hifonics brutas 2600rms, that pushed them pretty good, sometimes I only had 1 w7 in the car and it was still being pushed pretty good it was suppose to make 2600rms at 1ohm 1700 at2ohm and 850 at 4ohm(amp really doesn't make that much power). You need a amp that makes good power at 2ohm and 4ohm I think atleast

I'd sell the w7 and get something differnt that's non 3ohm
