1. Search... It's been covered many times.
2. You also need a true RMS AC clamp meter.

if you get a cheaper one be sure to use a 50hz or 60hz tone as they are meant for house wiring/ industrial wiring which is not 35hz and the cheap ones take more of an average instead of real reading or something just use 50 or 60 if you want it closer to actual

yeah, a regular DMM can't test how many watts your amp puts out. You need a special meter that measures amperage. Most guys here call it a "clamp".

Mhm, get a clamp bobby, u need one anyway when u test the new alt you are getting from PB, then you do the math calculate all you other factors like what volts & ohms you are running at including your rise and you should get the approx wattage. Remember its music so your gonna get readings all over the place. And try to get a good clamp, avoid crapsmen if you can, not knocking their tools because those are ok for the price but their electronics are highest bidder crap from the poorest of electronic pcb/semiconductor countries like a lot of the amps you see on the market today(or worse) at least go with an Ideal or a Mactools they are in the average range and snap on and fluke after that. Fluke is slighy high in price but worth it(if you do it for a living or do comps and clamp a lot. Personally i dont clamp as much as the comp or amp guys do so im trying to find a clamp right now that will be between a fluke and an ideal. So look a little over $100 for a good acurate one.
