Default Break In Subs Or Not?

I know a lot of people recommend breaking in your subs and some say it is not necessary. I have personally never had to worry about it too much since I always bought subs used, but I was wondering what do you think about breaking in subs. If you do break in your subs, how long do you break them in for, do you just play at a mid level volume, do you raise the volume one or two after so many hours?

Edit: Also, do you set your amp low if you break your subs in or, do you set your amp after they are broken in?

all subs with decent suspension need about 15 to 20 hrs of low play time to loosen up...

example my psi 18" sooo super stiff.. at 1st i couldnt put more than 500 rms into it.. let it play for going on 5 hours now..and now it takes 1300 rms and more..\
and the looser the suspension gets it will respond better and get lower/louder..
i had a fi q 10 that i didnt break in.. soon as i got it put it on 800 rms or so.. it fried..couldnt handle the power that soon

I've never broken in a sub. I've started out at a higher impedance but got too impatient to see how it sounded wound out so I quickly changed the wiring over to run it full power.

I do normally keep the volume a little lower for the first few days/week. But you can't not crank it first thing to see how it sounds/performs.

Some subs "have" to be broken in, the rest "should" be fine.

For my AQ 10's, I just wired them up free air, put a charger on my car, and played them on a 50-70hz sweep tone for about 4-5 hours at a volume that reasonable to make them move and loosen them up.

seriously though break-in is a complete joke. you break in a sub by playing it. if you are worried about it just play it at a reasonable volume with reasonable power before going crazy.
either that or dont spend money on car audio. if someone is really worried about breaking something they need to spend money on something they cant break.
