Default Are the voice coils on my sub damaged?

I recently purchased a used sub from a member of this forum. I need to know if my readings are within limits or not. The sub in question is an image dynamics idmax 10d2v2. it has dual 2 ohm voice coils. I checked the readings on 3 meters. I'm only getting 1.3ohms on each voice coil and about 2.5 when theyare wired up in series. Now i have ohmed out my 18 year old 15s which have single 8ohms and they read about 7.8 ohms and my 4 ohm mids read about 3.8 ohms so these 2 ohms that should read closer to maybe 1.9 or 1.8 ohms wouldnt you think? Please tell me if my reading are within tolernace or I have definate damage. I can only do 4ohm mono bridge on my amp and I'm thinking if I put a 2.5 ohm load on it I might cook it.

If they were damaged they typically don't read less than "rated" impedence. Be more like 40ohms or something. The coils are fine. Most companies use coils slightly under the rated impedence to combat impedence rise a bit. For instance I had a DC level 3 12" dual 4 and it read 2.8ohms each coil.......

There will be an impedance rise. You will probably be actually running the amp over 4 ohms. I think your amp should be fine.

Chances are it wont BLOW the amp, the power light will flash or turn a different color when presented too low of an impedence IIRC. Try it out and if it doesn't stay playing then just wire a coil to each channel, should be around same power anyways.
