Default Blown Voice Coil?

Below starts with what happened, and the question is the bolded paragraph...
Ok the subs are 2 DB Drive Platinum Series PT15D4.

One works properly. The other began making a a noise kind of like a crackling noise every now and then. Everytime I heard it I would check it out but then it would go away by the time I get out of car and go to the back... finally it became more constant, to where it would send my amp into protect mode, more quickly depending on volume. When both subs are wired together, both subs made this noise, when they were tested seperately only the one made this noise...

Basically, I took the sub out checked and saw nothing visably wrong, the only thing I found was that the connector on the box seemed to be bent, so I thought maybe the wire was coming lose. Replacing the wire led to it working outside my car for the hour or so of testing, however upon flipping the box to go back in my car and turning it on in there it did it again, and eventually blew the amp.

Since there is nothing visibly wrong with the sub, I am assuming it is something with the voice coil, I was wondering if there is a way to verify my assumption, with some tool or is there some way of testing this?

Edit: I am not too familiar with much car audio, except for basic installation, so I am not familiar with tools etc, I used wire stripper/crimper, scrissors, allen wrench, screwdrivers... nothing fancy.

No, I have not, should all the coils read about the same thing? or how would I know if there is a problem with 1 or more of the coils?

Any digital one will work for this purpose, be sure it is digital and not analog (Yes, they do still sell analogs ).

I bought a DMM at home depot I believe for about $15 that worked great and lasted about 2 years .

You would put the multimeter leads on the speaker's terminals, if it is a D4 sub each coil should read somewhere around 4 ohms. If it's a D2 each coil should read somewhere around 2ohm. S4 should read around 4 ohms, etc.

If the coil reads 0.000 or crazy numbers jumping around or i once had a VC blow that read 64 kohm, so if it is anything unusual, it is likely blown.
