Default Issue with relay (i think) or wiring

So I bought this head unit that has a DVD player. In order to activate the video portion you need to apply the parking brake. There is a parking brake wire that needs to be grounded while the headunit is powered on and then it activates the video. Well, I decided to buy a 4 wire relay and bypass the parking brake.

Parking brake wire from HU goes to #87
Ground to #30
Remote wire to #85
Ground to #86

The way it is setup it should, once the headunit is powered on, flip the relay between the parking brake wire and the ground wire, thus activating the video, but that is not happening.

When I manually take the parking brake wire and ground it while the HU is on it will activate the video, just not with the relay.

Any advice?

Do you have a DMM to check the resistance between 87 and 30? Can you hear the relay switch? Couldn't you just as easily run a switch between 30 and 87?

I don't have a multimeter. I haven't checked to see if I can hear it switch. I really don't want to use a switch and rather have it "automatic", but for some reason I don't think the relay is going to work. I am going to buy a new relay and switch tomorrow so if the relay doesn't work then I'm just going to use a switch.

Technically speaking though, the way it is setup, it should ground the parking wire and allow the video to play.

Yea it should work your right about that.

What's stopping you from leaving the wire grounded? You should be able to hear the relay click and if it doesn't its bad. Make sure its a normally open and not a normally closed relay (dunno how you would've got the wrong one but who knows) if it clicks and doesn't work. Dunno what else to tell you besides check double check your wiring. Just tonight I forgot to connect the ground on my amp. I was so sure I blew it.

You're talking about just ground the wire straight up? If the radio senses the circuit is closed to ground when it turns on it won't activate the video. If the circuit is open when it starts then is closed then it will activate the video. I hope thats what you were asking.

Tomorrow i am going to check to see if I can hear the relay though.

If the relay works but vid still doesn't you could try building a delay circuit.
