So for christmas I let my brother have my old setup(Alpine type-r 10" dual 2ohm and memphis amp.) We got it all hooked up correctly wired to 1ohms set with DMM power ran on one side and rca's on another and so on. Powered it up and there is distortion.
Sounds like something is rubbing to me; so i pull the sub out and check the voice coils with a DMM and both are right at 2.1, so now i carefully press the cone straight down to see if i can feel any rubbing and nothing. First question is can the sub still be blown?
Was also thinking that maybe it was the amp(refurbished when i bought it.) I had the same issue with the noise but I just figured it was port noise and thought nothing of it until my brother got it and he put it in a sealed enclosure.
Plan on hooking a different amp up to it and see if that resolves the noise issue and if it does problem solved. Just wasn't for sure that if the sub "seemed" ok it could still be blown.
Feel kinda bad that i gave my brother my old system and he is spending all this money getting it installed and it is having problems. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks
