Default Building A Sub

I have never built a sub or even reconed one for that matter. If I were to want to build a sub where would I start? I see people selling motors on here but I dont know anything about specs I should look for etc. Same with baskets I dont know what bolt pattern to get or anything like that. I really want to get more hands on and try my luck with something like this. Any help would be appreciated.

Jeremy

With motors, you want to look at the coil size. Most common is 1.5", 2", 2.5", and 3". The larger the coil the more power it can handle.

As far as motors, most will already come with the standard 6 bolt pattern already drilled in the basket. Most motors also use this pattern.

Ok well I might try to get a tc9 motor. Is that any good? What can I expect RMS wise and where do I look to get coils etc. Sorry for all the noob questions just trying to expand my knowledge on subwoofers and car audio in general.

those tc9 motors can make some beastly subs. and most coils fit the gap. only problem is that some dont have tapped mounting holes on top so only a few baskets fit it. if you know how to tap it, then do it. if not, move on to the next motor

Another issue is gaps differ. Some are larger some are smaller, some have copper rings in the cap, some have extended poles. Also there are variants like the TC9+ etc etc.
