Default Doubling power-how much gain have you actually seen?

We all know the 3 db rule of thumb, doubling your cone area or doubling your power should result in a gain of 3 db. But of course this is theoretical. So in real life how much gain have you achieved by doubling your power on the same woofer/box setup?

Thermal compression is what limits it. It can be as less as 1db if you have ALOT of wattage on it.

1.9 from 1 ohm to .25.

1.7 by doubling cone area with a pair of 10's. Tuning changed though, so there was more in play there.

I gained 2.6 going from an RD2200 @ .25 to a SS DTR @.25. on the same setup. That's a HUGE gain just from swapping [email protected] (rated) amps.

Not using as much wattage should literally help you out, but this is compared to high wattage. Just because a sub like DD, aq, etc takes ALOT of twattage dosnt mean that running it past there ratings without blowing them up will be free. People say things are overated, but honestly for all we know, aq and similar popular brands could overate due to the subs even producing a aittle of thermal compression at there own ratings. Thermal compression causes resistance.

So there tests should be done to findout if say, 6000w is very close enough to 3k due to better efficency. Like impedance rise. For comp, you want it to match the amplifiers lowest possible imp, so in this case why not be concerned with usiong less wattage...
