Default Lets talk science/air flow.

ok guys, i want an technical explanation on why, do Circular/PVC ports tend to move more air Vs Slot ports? now before i get some smart asses in here saying that a port is a port and port area is port area, ive did testing over the years, and using the exact same sqin of port same tuning, pvc/ circular ports had a bit more air movement. What are the reasons for this? ive also noticed that Square ports, not rectangle also had a bit more air flow using same port area and tuning.

Xander and all the other guys chime in and talk away! i want technical info on why does this occur! i thought port area was port area and air should still move at the same velocity/speed/distance using same box and setup.

Simple Aerodynamics explanation for you. Air does not move in a constant direction, by having a cylindrical port vs a rectangular port, it allows for the air to move in a vortex like pattern. Whereas if we picture the irregular air movement in a rectangular port we can understand that it will be hitting off of more walls and creating more turbulence. Now this doesn't always prove true in all car audio cases but this would be the scientific explanation behind it.

makes sense. one thing i did notice with using slots, is that at low volumes you could literally feel way more air on the sides of the port vs sticking your hand directly in the middle of the port. only time alot of air came out the port was at higher volumes. so what you said does make sense after i sit here and think about it.

When air more though a port the wall have an effect on the air moving past it the velocity on the wall will be diffent than the velocity in the center

the more corners and bends the more dead spots you have as well, the air will spin backward and disrupt air flow.

and 45's do not help as much as people think they do. thats why when sundown did his he had to test ever single one instead of just 45ing the whole thing. 45's can make it even worse for air flow sometimes. the best way is to do round corners , but even then if not he right size or place can still mess with air flow
