There's more than just protecting the speakers from moisture to make it a good install. But to answer your question... I took the rain shields off the back of my factory speakers & modified them to fit my new ones. I mounted the driver with a 1/2" thick baffle made of marine grade plywood & with it between the new driver & the door, it fit perfectly. I also mounted the xovers under each seat. I don't care what anyone says, the inside of the door is a terrible place to mount a passive xover. If you can't or don't want to mount them under the seats, the kick panels migh be a good place depending on the size of your xovers. Mine are fairly large & there wasn't any room around the dash.
