Default Alt issue help

I sold my Alt to a kid in Texas, the alt worked flawless for me. It was a 250amp alt and put out everything I needed and sat at 14.7 on 1200rpm which was real nice.
Well I took it out, packaged it well and the kid claims that it wont go over 11.5 volts until he gets up to 2500rpm. He has the same vehicle as me and explained that he installed it like I told him, cept he has a single yellow top in back and a cap. Where as I had 5 SPV70s in the back. Anyone know what could be causing the problem, i told him to pull the damn cap as its pretty useless but he refuse to. He said he brought it in and the alt tested good at his auto store.

Heres a reading at about 1200rpm right before i took it out.

I wish I could help. Maybe something to do with his wiring being setup differently.

Sounds kinda fishy that he straight hooks it up and the output is THAT much different from when you had it. Either shipping company dropped or he did probably. And if it tests good by itself its HIS car thats got the problem. He should try and do the big III on his alt and see if maybe that opens up some more current and maybe brings his voltage up. He could be using to small of wire
