Default Transmission line enclosures

Does anybody on here run a tline? I have been debating on building one for a while and Im thinking of trying it out after a bit more research. I really want to know the difference in spl between tline and ported and if ported moves more air or not. Right now I have a ported box tuned at 25-26hz and Im thinking a tline tuned at 30ish(need to really research this first) would maybe have better low end. The overall goal is of course loud, really clean and really low bass. If this all goes well Ill lose a seat and gain a LOT of cargo room back.

Also what are everybody's opinions on sub and port locations? So far Im thinking sub and port next to each other side firing in the very back.

I've been wanting to build a t-line for a long time now, I did a bit of research on them a while back, and from what I understand you don't tune them to a desired frequency, you tune them to the fs of the woofer you are using. So the driver you use has a HUGE impact on the overall sound and how low it will play. t-lines are very efficient and pretty much unbeatable when it comes to sq from what I hear. But I also have read they are not great for Spl, but I assume based on your user name that's not what your after.

i'm running several T-lines atm. (granted they are all for HT use) are they made for spl, no. IMO, they are very efficiant and have great range if you build it right and with the right drivers. the downside is they are very large. to give you an idea, mine for a single 18" is 8' wide, 24" deep, and 19" tall. spy made one for a car that was for a pair of 8's that took up 3ft^3 or so IIRC.

Im really looking for cleaner, and stronger low end with the same output as my ported box now. I dont want to go for a tapered line because Im pushing it as it is with t/s specs. The sub has psi soft parts so I cant just look up the t/s parameters on it so I figured it would be easier to just build a basic single fold tline.

and I cant believe I thought I had a choice to build one or not, of course I have to

IIrc the area of the line should match as closley as possible the surface area of the woofers cone and the line needs to end in a fraction of a a wavelength that is determined by the woofers Fs.
As far as the tapered part I never got that far.
My description is prob clear as mud - lol.

size is not a problem Ive come to terms with the loss of one of my seats, because when you think about it, its not my ass that has to squeeze back there with a few other people now is it

How is the mechanical power handling on them? Id like to run all "1500 rms" to mine.

Efficiency and extension are the thing with TL's. From what I have read, they are +1.5db over standard ported. Traditionally the line area = Sd (effective cone area) of the sub and are usually tuned to the sub's Fs. They do get huge though, but if you have the room, go for it. I have been dying to try one, but I just don't have the room in my trunk for much sub.

For anyone who thinks TL's don't ALSO get loud, I saw a TL for a pair of 15's in a SQ vehicle doing 57's on two Linear Power amps. I think the subs were only seeing like 1kw apiece too. The box was 25cf though. Lol.
