Default free air

run a 26 hertz test tone on the sub at 100 watts rms for 1 day or run it barely playing for a couple weeks in your car

Meh, break in period is overrated. Just don't go playing 30hz test tone on double rated power and you will be good.

Digital Designs recommends up to several weeks and even months over time in order for complete break in. It's mainly because the hand made subs are extremely stuff and require a break in period like many other subs. Usually a good week with less than half of amp power will do the trick. I recently got a DD1012 for the right price and I'm very satisfied with it. I just need the patience for it to break in even more lol until I finally turn it up. You'll know when the break in period is over when your sub plays lower and lower and in more detail, well depending on your setup of course.
