Default Good idea or terrible?

So one of the things I've never been too happy about with my car is how hard it is on the floors. One of the nice things about working on BMWs and other higher end cars is that they have this nice foam padding under the carpet, as opposed to the ugly carpet jute under my carpet.

I was thinking about taking a cheap foam mattress pad and replacing the carpet jute with the foam pad. Would probably put some deadening down on the floors as well, but any additional deadening is besides the point.

So the real question is, do you think this would work? The carpet jute is probably 1-2" thick, and most of the foam pads are 2-4" or so when relaxed, so they'd have some squeeze down on them in the beginning.

I wear flip flops most of the time, but really I want to do it to just make it a little softer and more comfortable inside. That carpet padding isn't very nice feeling.

Make sure what you get doesn't hold water. you would rust out your whole floor in no time if it did.

Have a look at some second skin products. They're made specifically for car use.
