Default Should I go IB or sealed??

I've talked to nismos14 and a few other people on another forum that have done an IB sub setup in a Nissan Altima. I have yet to talk to someone that didn't like it so I've been considering doing it myself, but I want to get an unbiased point of view on it before I commit.

I basically have two options that will allow me to keep my trunk space: spare tire well enclosure or IB subs on the rear deck.

The IB subs would let me keep my spare, would be "hidden" for the most part, and from what I understand sounds really well. However I would have to cut in to my rear deck to install them, and I don't know how IB would "feel" compared to a boxed sub.
The tire well would give me the enclosure sound and experience that I know and would give a nice custom looking build that I could show off if I wanted to. But I would lose my spare and I don't know how nice of a sub I could work with in the limited space.

I'm on a pretty limited budget as this isn't the only vehicle I'm working on. I just want a great sounding daily driver with enough bump to make me smile. I would also like to do this right the first time instead of getting caught in a constant upgrade battle.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

If it were me I'd stay away from doing IB through the rear deck unless you plan on beefing it up a bit. I'd look into the SI BK mkIII. I've heard good things and they only require .5 cubic foot per woofer.

Thanks for the recommendation but I'm really looking for reasons why one is better than the other. Multiple people have done IB in an Altima without bracing the rear deck.

Well in your first post you said you wanted it to be a one and done thing. If i were you I would do the spare tire because IB subs are a lot of retuning and adjusting. Also it's hard to find IB subs that are made for car audio. Even the ones made by Fi are meant for home audio use and the impedance on them is odd from what I have heard.

I guess I wasn't as clear as I could have been...
I don't want to cut in to my rear deck and decide later that I don't like it. Same with spending my time designing an enclosure. That's what I meant by once and done. Sorry

Move to NJ and you can hear mine first, LOL.

Personally, I think if you're iffy about IB, then it might be better to just got the sealed route with the type of sub you want with the amount of power you want.

I don't think I'd ever have a reason to go to NJ.

Is there that significant of a difference in the sound between a sealed and IB?

Well, 1 8 sealed vs 2 8's IB could yield similar results, my love of IB comes more from the sound quality of it, but I have subs that can get down pretty well in there too.

How about one 10 sealed vs 2 8s IB?
I assume the largest sub I could use would be a 10 and if I want to keep the top of the box flush with the floor of the trunk it can't be too deep either. Ofcourse I haven't done much research on sub options yet. Still trying to find the path I'm taking.

Touch call, but keep in mind its also the difference between having the subs IN the cabin versus in the trunk..
