Default newb wanting near audiophile sound

Alright, so I think I'm in the right place. Most will say that nothing can ever beat the sound quality of 2 well-built home theater speakers. I posed this question to my dad as to how I could get this sound into my car, and he said I'm talkin $1000...at least. Then I find out that there are competitions held where the winner depicts in his car the exact sound heard in the home. I was surprised to learn $20000 was not uncommon to spend to build it.

So with that said, car audio always seemed a simple concept to me: two speakers in the front, two speakers in the back, a sub in the trunk and two amps in the trunk. But now I'm after real audiophile sound so I guess that simple set-up must go out of my mind: doesn't need to be near perfect but leaning towards there. I willing to work with a budget of $1000-$1500. I'm willing to save for it, since I absolutely cannot stand the sound quality of my car, especially with the fact one of the speakers is blown. I want to be able to walk in any popular department store or at least a known chain of car audio shops and get it bought and installed without dealing with the hassle of online shipping should the products get damaged during delivery. Any help is appreciated.

nope. can't be done.

you can build it yourself for around $1000 installed and a lot of learning.

What you can't do, is walk into a store like bestbuy and get what you want.. even if you paid them double, they couldn't do it.

I think the easiest thing for you to do to get the sound you're looking for without having to learn a lot about what it takes or to spend ridiculous amounts of money on fabrication and install I would do the following:

Buy an MS-8 This is a pricey piece but well worth it.
w/ the MS-8 you can pretty much run any headunit you want.

Buy some raw drivers from partsexpress or madisound 4 mids and tweeters and possibly a center channel speaker if you have a factory center channel.

Buy a 4 and 2 ch. amp or any combination of amps you need to run those speakers along with an amp for your sub/subs. On Diymobileaudio.com someone is selling a few Massive Audio amps at great prices and they're really small, I recommend you looking into them.

SOUND DEADEN YOUR DOORS AND ADD A BAFFLE TO THE MIDS!

With all that it should leave you right within your budget or slightly over including the install. If you do the sound deadening yourself, it's not very pricey for an installer to replace your factory mids and tweeters and install a couple amps.

The MS-8 will autotune your vehicle on it's own and you should be set.

Actually all you really need is a strong front stage, and a decent subwoofer. The right installation and enclosure sizes play bigger factors than what equipment you run.

True, you can't do much when you enclosure(the car) is small yet leaks air.

One thing Ive noticed in SQ less is more. Some of the best sound quality systems have 5 speakers and thats it. 2 tweets, 2 midbass and a sub. The fewer speakers you have the less chance of cancellation, and noise getting introduced into your system, a good strong 4 channel for your tweets and mids and a strong 2 channel for your sub. Or if you can find a decent 5 channel amp.

You will be far far better off doing this yourself, you will learn more and you will appreciate what you have. You wont beat some of the deal youll find online, and something else you are in the realm of knowledge here, Big Box department store installers cant come close to the amount of knowledge that is available to you on this forum.

this is just my .02.

Some good advice here. Some GOOD digital processing will go a LONG way in getting where you want to be. Sound deadening the doors really well is a must. Unless you are watching movies in 5.1 surround it just doesn't sound natural to run rears.

You can buy Q-Logic kickpanels for just about any car on the market, they make installing components up front pretty easy and they image quite well.

Really you can do it for 1000$ if you use a LOT of care and trial and error in the install, a little more if you want to rely on DSP to clean things up.

MS-8. End of story

Local shop owner has a set of JBL Power series comps and a kicker shallow mount sub in his truck. Not sure what amps, Kicker I think though, nothing special and hes running active but with that MS-8 it sounds AMAZING. DEF look into the MS-8!!!
