Its supposed to be gear towards sound quality as it eliminates harmonics. In a sub application its rare to see and I wouldn't be too worried about the harmonics. But its common in midbass/midrange.
An underhung woofer is more common than you think lol. The IA Flatlyne is underhung, the old re xxx was, the eD 13Av.2, the Audiomobile Mass 2012, Aura 1808/TC 5100, Soundstream reference R1, Crystal CMP12X, eD A7-450 and its 15" Counterpart, etc etc lol.
