Default alternator on its way out?

alright i have a Motor City Reman 170 amp alternator on my car and up until today all was good. before today, it would always idle at 14.4+ volts as long as no load was on the car electrically. and if i was driving around 2k, at full tilt, i would NEVER drop below 14. today, i went to lunch and noticed it was idling at 13.7 ish. i gave it gas and as i did it went up like normal to 14.4. however, the lower the rpms came down, the voltage steadily came back down to 13.6 ish as well. now i thought the battery just might have been drained during a demo sesh, or it was just cause it was hot as shit earlier, but its cooler now and its still doing the same thing. i checked all my charge line connections, main grounds, and fuses and all are good. my alt does have an internal regulator which tends to fail. so im not sure if its that or not. just tryna get ideass. thanks guys

Make sure to check the voltmeter as well. Mine was dipping into the 12s and it was a loose ground, lol.

i put my dmm on the battery and the amp terminals and its accurate. the alt is working just like it should. the voltage goes up with rpm and stays constant after about 1800 rpm. it just seems as if the output has been cut it half, if not more. if im in sitting in drive with my foot on the brake, it goes down to 13.3. pop it to neutral it goes up to 13.7. give it gas its back up to 14.4. its all uniform

The Brush Assembly is underneath the Voltage Regulator..Remove the Torx screws holding the Voltage Regulator in place..Then you will see the brushes...You have to take two Torx screws out to remove the Brush Assembly from the Voltage Regulator...Very Simple..

Here's a link to a place online that sells the Brush Assembly that includes Brand New Brushes:

Brushes= Part No. 392021

Voltage Regulator= Part # 352021 Voltage Regulator for Ford Motorcraft 2G series Alternator

Good Luck!

I replaced the Voltage Regulator and Brushes together...I had a spare Voltage Regulator with good Brushes in it...After that it performed like new again..My mistake on the part #'s...You do have a 3G..
