Budget? Whats your setup looking like?

Ive used a Pioneer Premier 880, Alpine 9887, and a 9886 (requires Imprint for active). My last HU I just sold was an Alpine IVA W407 DD with an Imprint processor.

All those units work very well for doing an active setup, easy to pick up and go, but still offer alot of tuning options for you as well. The Pioneer is no longer in production, but Pioneer make another unit thats even better, but it also cost a lot more.

I'm thinking about picking up the 9887. Seems like everyone loves them.

Look into an older alpine deck like the 9813 9815 9833 or possibly the 9835. Any of these decks can be had for under 200. The first 2 can be had for around 100

Dumb question, not to steer off topic but what makes a h/u active. Or what's the difference between a "basic" h/u and an active?

from what i understand an active hu has three sets of outputs and lets you control the crossover slopes from the hu.
