+ 1 on fluke
they have a lot of different models so it is a little much to figure out what you need. I settled on a 115. Check your local craigslist. got mine for 65.

fluke is good if you can muster the money for them but I get by just fine with my Ryobi, they just went down to $59.99 at home depot

Unless you need to be super precise and get changing results fast, there's really no reason to splurge. Most of the time I just use mine for continuity and simple voltage readings, so basically anything will do. Mine was $5 shipped from ebay and works great, although it's slow as shit compared to a Fluke (or even my dads Craftsman).

I paid I think $5 at harbor freight. Fluke is the ones you always hear about though.

Depends what your using it for flukes are like dd work well but expensive.
Since you never owned a meter get a craftsman or a cheapo till you get your bearings you don't want to mess a meter. You don't want to measure impedance when you checking voltage or vise versa. After you electrocute a cheapo and burn the leads from arcing then you might want to invest more. try to get one with a amp clamp though.

Ok I don't want to seem like an ass, but why would you spend thousands on all your gear and then spend $5 on your DMM? I believe in the saying "buy once cry once"....
