Default Overall "Best" High Output Alternator?

I want to know who makes the 'best' alternators in your opinion. Only personal experiences please. By best I mean reliability, daily performance... etc. also i feel price would be a factor in this as well.

I just bought an alternator.

i spent 3 weeks researching and talking to Excessive Amperage, Ohio Generators, PowerBastards, DC, and Mechman.

all had good customer service

I was set that I wanted the Ohio Generators...price to performance ratio seems great, and I had several referrals with them.
The day I went to send them money, I got a phone call recommending Singer Alternators.
Emailed the owner, Mike Singer. Guy got back to me quickly, spent more time with discussing alternators with me, trash talked no other companies, just told me features, and had a great price.
I sent him my money. He has kept in contact on status of my alternator, and has been involved in some really nice and big builds. His prices are very reasonable.

If I were you, I'd call everyone I listed and ask for prices and information on the casing, warranty, build, and prices. Singer Alternators hands down was the best I spoke to.
Welcome to Singer Alternators | Singer Alternators
he will email you with a fast response.

Still love Singer alts, but due to lack of time with my current job, had to back out of forum rep. Sorry guys!

Mike is a good guy. And I have not used any of his products. But he is realitivly new to the HO scene. I'm not sure how much R&D he has in his products to say they are reliable.
All alternator companies have good and bad about them. There is no one BEST alt out there IMO.
Every vehicle is a different application with its own limitations.
I find the biggest mistake is people go to big. Everyone says get the biggest you can afford. I say no larger then 220-250a for daily. That will give you a good mix of idle output and overall output.

As for companies...OG is one of the first HO alt makers for DBdrag. They are excellent and it is sad that Gus passed.
Another good one is Mechman. Quality product reliable , with great CS.
EA and Iraggi have both had terrible history so I would steer clear.
I have not dealt with DC directly but have seen good results with their product. But CS is a bit lacking.
Powerbastards I have never used. H.O. Alternator I have never used.

I think it's probably because that sub is not moving enough to allow it to cool.. Id turn the gain up a bit so it moves more for cooling reasons.. That's why it's hard on subs to be underpowered..

I went with a smaller company in Tennessee. BnR Electrical. Their sales staff was very helpful. I purchased a brand new 250amp alt for $220 shipped. At full tilt I have 0 voltage drop. I can't speak of durability because I've only had it a little over a month, but it doesn't have an overdrive pulley which should help with longevity. 2 days after I ordered it was delivered

I just bought a Mechman 270. I will let you know how it works. I have used a few others in the past. But none have ever failed. The ones I used in the past are: Ohio Generators, Stinger, and one off ebay. Out of all of them I think the one off Ebay was the only one that did not turn on at idle. So, I had to buy a smaller pulley for it.

I own 3 mechmans and 1 DC alt.

My Mechman alts all perform well as does my DC alt. CS is where they differ. Not to down DC's customer service, but I was lied to more than once when inquiring about my alt. It came, got installed, and it has been running fine the last 3 summers. The next time I inquired about getting one for another vehicle, I was told to call back in 2 months. I did and I was told to call back in another month. I called Mechman and had the alt I needed in less than 2 weeks. I had 4 C&D 490 batteries, and a rebranded group 34 Deka powering a Soundigital 8K and had no voltage issues. If you're looking to get an alt for your ride in a timely fashion, go with a Mechman. Most of the guys I know either use DC or Mechman. I think the old owner of this site may use a Singer alt.
