Default Line driver necessary?

Are line drivers necessary? My HU only has 2v preouts (it was free, cant complain for now) I do plan on eventually purchasing a better headunit but for now this is what I got. My question is do I NEED a line driver or will I be ok for now?

Also what exactly does a line driver do lol? I was just told by someone awhile ago that I would need one...

Line drivers increase voltage coming from the source unit (your headunit)
More voltage = less gain on your amp
Less gain = less floor noise

BY THE the time u get the two volts to the output threw signal cables threw amp u have quite a bit less than 2v which is barely enough for most amps 4 volt minimum line driver and combo eq cost like 70 bucks and they r worth it..

Just get a better headunit w/4-8v preouts rather than introducing a new piece of equipment into the signal chain.

You can damage you gear with or without a line driver lol, having or not having one will not ommune you from install and/or tunning mistakes.

What amp(s) do you have? Better yet what's your amp's minumum voltage input? (smaller number on gain knob)

U don't need a line driver.
Just like you said - it's nice to have, adds to quality but no, you don't HAVE to have it.

in past experiences any line driver under 150 dollars simply created a beautiful little engine whine. tried from a 60 dollar scoshe to a 150 dollar pg line driver. even an audiocontrol. all had the same issue. no it was not a ground loop issue lol.
