Default design request for Dwight Schrute [Completed]

Subwoofer/speaker brand: Sundown

Subwoofer/speaker model, size, and number of woofers: Sa-8 (2)

Expected power handling: 1000 each (sundown 2000d)

Vehicle enclosure will be used in (please add notes if specific or unusual placement will be used): Pontiac Grand Prix

Max dimensions (MUST fit in vehicle or through trunk opening!): 35w-14h-17d
Amp or expected power handling:

Listening expectations (description): music. mostly rap, some rock

What bandwidth is acceptable? 35-60hz high output, 30-80hz? Ignore if you do not understand

How low do you want it to play and how important are the low notes (Song examples are encouraged)? Would like them to get low.

Are you looking for a heavy low end, or one that blends with the rest of the output? heavy low end would be nice

How important is sound quality compared to loudness? leaning more toward SQ.

Are you able to cut odd angles? (45*, 7*..)

Is this an SPL design? If so, what is your peak frequency? If you do not know this, please measure your average cabin length in inches! no

Any specific enclosure preferences (Double baffled, flush mount, center slot, blowthrough, home environment etc)? double front baffle, flush mount, subs facing back port to the left of the subs

^Lol.

Why port to left?

Do you actually plan on them handling 1000rms each? Thats way over their thermal or mechanical limit really in any application. Especially given you are looking for a heavy low end, which is either achieved by a large enclosure (worse power handling) or cabin gain manipulations.

Is power handling, or low end more important? We could get you some good extension with better than normal power handling, but it wont give you a heavy low end, though the extension will be there.

The port on the left is just how I pictured it. I guess it wouldnt really matter, wherever it would actually work out.

And the amp does 2000 watts max at 1 ohm. I only listen to music, and usually not too loud. I guess in this case, power handling would be more important than low end.

Id really like to give the SA-8s a try. Would you suggest I get a smaller amp?

You can run the 8s off the 2000d but you obviously cant run them full power. Turn the gain down and set it to give ~1000w at your highest listening point and you should be about set.

I have this design already finished: 2x8s 1CuFt/34hz Truck or trunk box - $15.00 : TheBoxHouse, Enclosure designs
Which should work well for you. Its .5 per sub at 34hz which will give you good output from 30-80hz. Port back will give you good low end extension and output down low, while sub up should give you good output in the upper range so it doesnt fall on its face playing the upper notes.

Port is correct in that design as it should normally be placed on the passenger side for performance in the drivers side seat.

It is double baffled and includes correct mounting and flush-mount dimensions for the SA-8s.

If that doesnt work or if you have some other preference let me know. But from what you have described to me so far that enclosure should do well for you.
Just dont forget to set your subsonic!
