Default low voltage WTF!!!

was i just upgraded the alternator and had it rebuilt. but the problem is when i drive the car in town, and give it gas the voltage drops to 12.5, but when i let off the gas it charges up in the 13.8 14.4 range. and i jus charge the batts and they are setting at 12.8 right now. so what is the problem? batts? idk

thanks in advance!!!

Sounds like the belt is slipping. Mine did that on my jeep. I tightened the belt of and its fine now.

high output alts have a smaller pulley and its more prone to slip. it does sound as if its slipping because as it slips the alt stops charging because the alt pulley slows down. sometimes you have to use a slightly shorter belt to get enough tension.

just out of curiosity what vehicle is this on? Most newer cars have a belt tensioner. If your vehicle doesnt have one id say loosen the alt a bit and adjust alt up or down which ever way tightens.
