Default 55" LCD TV/Harmon Kardon receiver lil help

I bought my tv recently and now I wanna start getting my surround sound hooked up. With the sub and plate amp in the garage still, no build for them yet, i got my surround speakers already mounted. Question is: not very many outputs on back of the tv, not as many as the rear projection tv I had. The back of the HK receiver has a bunch of RCA outs/ins. How do I go about hooking up the surround sound to listen to tv or even a dvd blu ray? I have quick charts for the HK but at the moment I have no idea where it is. If someone could tell me step by step, I'd appreciate it.

Your tv should have an audio out, use rcas from that to your receiver. Hook everything else to your tv. Then all your audio from your tv will play thru ur receiver on all inputs. Make sense? Is that what you needed?

Most modern TVs only have a digital (optical) out. If it's any decent HK it has an optical in. This is what you use if you have cable TV that just goes directly to the coax on the back of the TV. If you have something that has a seperate box, such as DirecTv or Dish, you want to use RCA or preferably optical if available. You can also use the HDMI for audio. RCA<HDMI<Optical for sound

I have tested that amp about a bazillion times. I know what it does clean, clipped, dirty, loaded, unloaded, wired down, low voltage, good voltage, after it hot, while it's cool, on caps, on batts, where it protects, what's thermal limits are and just about anything else anyone would care to know about it.

But thanks for chiming in. Your opinion is duly noted.

Well not really. Which RCA's do I plug them into? I got many choices like Video in/out like 4 of these combined, dvd, etc. HK model AVR 240. I currently have Dish Network. And using the side HDMI cable for the tv.

Yep^ Just like that. If you have more than 3 devices, use component. It's picture really isn't noticeably different from HDMI
